DMX, Earl Simmonds, record producer and rapper, pleaded guilty to a charge of tax evasion back in November. The claim was a result of an investigation by the federal authorities, whereby it was established that the rapper had not paid tax on his income from 2002 to 2005. Those of you in the loop, will know that the rappers hit “X Gon Give it to Ya” was released in 2003, so it is likely he was making a substantial income throughout those years.
Additionally, it was claimed that the rappers income between 2010 and 2015 was over $2.3 million, again no tax was paid.
In a twist, the rappers lawyer, Murray Richman, has stated in filed court documents that he wants to play a number of DMX tracks at the sentencing on Thursday.
It is submitted that DMX is likely to be too overwhelmed to speak; therefore the rappers music will assist US District Judge Jed Rakoff in understanding DMX.
It is reported that the District Judge has been sent the lyrics of the rapper’s “Slippin” and “The Convo” tracks.
DMX has been imprisoned since he failed to meet bail conditions in January. His lawyer has stated that the rapper is now “sober now and invigorated”.
Thursday will see if the Judge gon give it to DMX
