In March 2022, singer songwriter Dua Lipa faced a copyright infringement lawsuit against two songwriters Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer for allegedly duplicating the opening melody for her song “Levitating”.
The singer now faces another lawsuit over the hit same track, this time by LA based producer and entrepreneur, Bosko Kante.
In the suit filed with the US District Court in California on 31 July 2023, the producer alleges that he did not authorise Dua Lipa to use the producer’s three mixes of the hit track. The main remix cited in the suit is the DaBaby version which currently has almost 2 billion streams on Spotify alone. The producer makes further claims to state that he has made several attempts to resolve the dispute out of Court, but to no avail. Dua Lipa’s legal team are yet to comment on the claims.
This is the third lawsuit that Dua Lipa has faced over her hit song Levitating. A week prior to songwriters Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer making a claim in March 2022, Florida based reggae band ‘Artikal Sound System’ also filed suit in LA accusing Lipa of copying their track ‘Live Your Life’.
