As well as currently facing a lawsuit for trademark infringement, the pop group One Direction have also reportedly been banned from Global Radio’s Capital FM and Heart brands. According to Music Week, Global’s executive president and founder Ashley Tabor blacklisted One Direction following an incident at the BRIT Awards 2012. Having won Best Single for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, the band accidentally thanked Radio One for an award voted for by Capital listeners – oops!
Following this embarrassing on-air gaffe, Capital FM reportedly removed all content relating to the band from their website and dropped a promotion deal for the band’s tour dates scheduled for the morning after the awards. The band issued a statement of apology to Capital FM listeners, however according to Music Week, the station has not played a single One Direction track since February 22.
It’s good to remember where your votes come from boys!
