Clifford Joseph Price MBE, aka Goldie, became well known for being a pioneer of the 1990s UK rave scene; he did his bit as jungle and breakbeat producer. Goldie has even appeared in the Guy Ritchie film Snatch, the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough and even made an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.
From the decks, to the film screen and to the TV, Goldie has done it and been a pioneer along the way. However, the drum and bass star obviously was not content; he has gone on to make legal history.
In a legal first, Goldie has appeared in court via Facetime. Goldie was up for a charge of assault but he regularly resides in Thailand over the winter months, to that end his legal team attempted to have the hearing put back. District Judge Lynn Matthews rejected this and ordered that the trial godhead.
Goldie purported to admit to the offence by way of email, it is reported that the email stated: “Yep, guilty as charged.”
But, again, District Judge Lynn Matthews did not take kindly to this and did not accept the guilty plea. The court was then informed that Goldie would appear via Facetime. It is reported that when Goldie confirmed the guilty plea, he stated “Correct my dear”, to which District Judge Lynn Matthews replied I am not your “dear”.
However, Goldie must appear in person for his sentencing or there will be a warrant issued for his arrest.
