Music Vine, a Leeds-based startup company, have launched a new service Uppbeat, aiming to provide users with ‘free, quality music that guarantees no copyright issues’.
Music Vine, co-founded by Lewis Foster and Matt Russell, was originally launched to assist professional filmmakers in navigating music licensing. Uppbeat aims to provide a slightly different service, removing barriers to high-quality music to enable content creators, including YouTubers and podcasters, to avoid copyright claims without the need for ‘pricey music license subscriptions’ or use of ‘uninspiring’ pre-existing free music.
At launch, the platform had a catalog of over 900 tracks from artists around the world. These curated artists are still paid fairly, as Foster claimed to have devised an ‘ethical business model’ providing fees to the artists sourced from several revenue streams.
Uppbeat plans to become the ‘go-to’ platform for content creators, offering a free and premium level account. The free subscription will grant users the ability to download ten full-length tracks each month, whilst the premium subscription at £6.99 a month provides unlimited access.
