Microsoft has announced that the music app “Groove” will be shutting down on IOS and android devices.
Groove music, very similar to the likes of Spotify, retired last year. However, all of users personal files were still available on the app. The creators of Groove have now stated that the apps themselves will now stop working altogether. If you are still a customer you will have to migrate your songs elsewhere is you wish to keep listening in the cloud ,however, if you use the app on a Windows powered phone, Xbox One, or a Windows 10 PC then the app will still continue to work for you.
Before it was discontinued, Groove music used to work almost identically to Spotify. Users would pay a monthly fee for a “Groove Pass” which would allow unlimited streaming and downloading of songs on the app. Due to lack of popularity the app was discontinued December 31st 2017, meaning all online features of the app were removed including the store, music videos and streaming pass. When Groove announced that these changes were happening in October 2017 they recommended that their users switch over to Spotify as all their music and playlists could be transferred over with ease. Users would do this by signing into or creating their Spotify account in the Groove app and then all their music would be transferred over.
