A court date has now been set for the libel case of Morrissey against NME magazine, over an interview published November 2007. According to webzine Pitchfork, the singer claimed NME magazine’s interview was defamatory and portrayed him as racist. It is also claimed that the magazine “doctored his words significantly and fabricated material”. Morrissey fanzine ‘True To You’, reportedly acknowledged that although NME issued a formal apology online, this has been rejected by the singer as “disproportionate to the damage done to Morrissey by the NME magazine itself”.
It has been reported that the case will be heard July 16-19. Fans wishing to show their support for Morrissey have been encouraged to “make their presence known outside the High Court in London on these dates”.
