Torrentfreak is reporting that the RIAA and BPI have technically pirated the scripts on their website. I am by no means an expert on coding, but as I understand it scripts are a series of instructions which are essential to how a website works.
The BPI and RIAA use a script from jQuery on their website. For those not in the know, jQuery is a library of pre-written javascripts. jQuery scripts are open source and are licensed to anybody under the MIT license for any purpose so long as some minimum requirements are met. One of these requirements is that the original copyright notice, which is written into the script, remains untouched when implementing the script. As you may have already guessed by, the RIAA and BPI websites have omitted the copyright notice from the scripts running on their website.
This is probably nothing more than a simple blunder by the BPI and RIAA. Torrentfreak has sent an email to both the BPI and RIAA informing them of their error, and the scripts have been amended to include the copyright notice. Still, its fun to see BPI and RIAA with some egg on their face for once.
