Roddy Ricch and producer 30 Roc are facing a copyright infringement lawsuit. The pair are being accused of ripping off elements of the 1975 song Come on Down by Greg Perry. Perry states that Ricch and his record label used a complete duplication of portions of his song in the track without permission. Specifically, the distinctive violin opening is under fire.
Perry states that “expert musicology analysis confirms that the ascending minor sale played by violin at the opening of ‘Come on Down’ is a distinctive musical element which recurs a total of six times throughout the song,” according to the suit.
The filing also states that Come On Down has been sampled in other notable songs. The songs include Young Yeezy’s Wordplay and Yo Gotti’s I Remember. Perry states that the distinctive compositional elements of Come on Down are remained popular in the R&B and rap community.
Representatives for Ricch are yet to respond to this story.
