Canadian singer and songwriter the Weeknd has reached a settlement with musicians Suniel Fox and Henry Strange over the alleged infringement of the singers hit 2018 song “Call Out My Name”.
The lawsuit which was filed in 2021 accused the Weeknd, singer Nicolás Jaar and producer Fank Dukes of copying the “lead guitar and vocal hooks ” of Suniel Fox and Henry Strange’s 2015 track “Vibeking”. Initially, it was reported that the Canadian singer denied the allegation however, earlier this week, the legal representatives of the two plaintiffs confirmed that they filed a settlement with Los Angeles Federal Court on 17 March 2022. Details of the settlement have not been made public as of yet.
This is just one of many of the copyright infringement suits the Weeknd has faced in recent years. In 2018, the singer along with electronic duo Daft Punk, were sued for copyright infringement over their 2016 hit song “Starboy” and in 2019, the singer was sued again for copyright infringement by a trio of British songwriters over the use of his “A Lonely Night” track.
